On Saturday, June 10 the “AmeriCal Youth Symphony” of the Friends of We Chinese in America organization performed on their first large scale venue a well-received beautiful rendition of “思乡 (Homesickness)” and “Radetzky March“ by Johann Strauss Sr. The performance was the opening act for the Encinitas Ballet gala, which included a performance of the “The Sleeping Beauty Royal Wedding” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky featuring local talented international adults and local youth ballet dancers.
The formal black-tie event was performed at the Proscenium Theatre, Canyon Crest Academy, 5951 E. Village Center Loop Road, San Diego, CA before a live audience.
The musicians are local accomplished San Diego county K-12 students, who play with passion and accuracy. They are led by the world-renowned conductor, Mr. Yang Sheng, and are supported by the symphony’s staff, parent volunteers and Ms. Ma Ping, the president of the We Chinese in America, who generosity sponsors the symphony.
The “Friends of We Chinese in America” is a non-profit organization, which is non-political and non-religious, that sponsors the “Youth Symphony Orchestra” in San Diego, CA.
The symphony orchestra provides a new opportunity for the new Chinese generation to cultivate and promote young people for musical and artist attainments. Also, will develop students’ team work skills, discipline and creative abilities.
Members of the symphony experience working with a professional world renowned conductor and improving their ensemble skills, gaining symphony orchestral performance experience in large-scale venues, earning community service points and enriching their university applications. The symphony program is free. No fees are collected. All music is provided. Piano, double bases and percussion instruments are available, also.
